Zhiing me!
Finally! A way to find people and locations without using mapquest. I found
a really awesome application that the iphone, and blackberry can use with GPS and any phone can receive as a text message.Last Thursday an EMS worker used this and it saved someone's life!
Examples of using the zhiing (LBS) mobile messaging utility:
• A friend zhiinged another friend’s mobile phone from a new restaurant inviting them to lunch. The friend received the invitation with a map and turn-by-turn directions of how to get there from their current location and replied that they would arrive in ten minutes.
• With the zhiing browser add-on installed, a Realtor using zhiing sends a zhiing location message to themselves and their client from their computer with information regarding what time an interesting property is available for preview. Both receive the location message with the destination address of the property to preview. A zhiing is now stored on their mobile device with driving directions to the property from their current location.
• A zhiing user is in need of roadside assistance. They send a zhiing message with their location requesting assistance.
For additional information on the zhiing (LBS) mobile location messaging utility for mobile devices please visit http://www.zhiing.com.
So iConnie.com gives this huge thumbs up!! I love supporting Santa Barbara Companies and you know how Connie loves her toys :-).

Website Makeovers
Web site Makeovers
Are you looking for a boost in this economy?
It's impossible to ignore the headlines right now on the economy. Everyday the reports seem to focus on what's not looking good for businesses. The "R" (recession) word can send businesses into a non-growth mode with cutbacks and lay offs. The immediate pain of losing customers is difficult, if not overwhelming.
Tune into my podcast Boost your Web Site and learn what you can do without spending a lot of money to give your marketing a boost. Start a web site makeover!

Facebook - it's not just for kids
If you are looking to increase the visibility of your business, don’t count out social networking sites. Facebook and Myspace are not just for kids. If you want something for business networking consider LinkedIn as another way to expand your network.
One of the attractive benefits of social networking sites is that they help you see your network of friends and colleagues in a very visual way. For those that kept the perfect Rolodex, think of it as an electronic Rolodex with the potential for instant contact.A few clicks provides you with an instant way to expand your network and meet more people. These sites are simple to manage and frankly can be fun (remember that word?)
Five quick tips for using Facebook
1. Create a professional look for yourself.
2. List your events – let your network know what you are doing.
3. Syndicate your blog on your profile page.
4. Join a group – I was impressed with the groups here and the potential for gathering and sharing information.
5. Create a group for your clients that might want to connect.
Options for social networking
LinkedIn – No thrills and very basic with LinkedIn. This site has high impact in the Google search engine. Another high point is the recommendation section.
Give and receive feedback. Think of this as great electronic resume. Also take a look at the connections your friends and colleagues have – is there someone you would like to meet?
Twitter – Find out where people are and what they are doing. Honestly, this one
was too much work for me. I don’t have time to list every moment of my life.
MySpace – Great for the more free spirited and artistic, in my opinion. If you are in the music, film or television industry it's smart to be listed here. The MySpace artist profiles are the strongest on the web and the most viewed. Looking for a record deal or to promote a film project – start here.
Ning.com - Terrific way to start a social networking site with no money. I actually belong to a film group hosted on Ning, and it's been a wonderful way to have a site that is visual and easy - much better than your basic forums.
I would love to hear from people that are using these sites - share your story.
And if you happen to be on Facebook - add me as friend :)

The World of Blogs
The World of Blogs
I must admit that I have a growing obsession with blogging these days. I think the citizen media movement is an important one and the opportunity share ideas, experiences and opinions have never been more needed.
Bloggers seem to come in three main categories:
1. The Tellers – they feel ticked off and are going to you why.
2. The Sellers – they are either selling something themselves or for someone else.
3. The Resources Group – they were library nerds as kids and now cannot wait to share every new interesting thing they find in the world (this would be me).
(All the links are listed in the left column of this page)
My favorite tellers
The Huffington Post – This is the biggest blog portal on the web. If you are any kind of news junkie this is the place for you.
The Onion – A political classic.
Tom Joyner - I must admit when something happens in the world of politics I look forward to what Tom will say the next. (we agree on a lot of things)
My favorite sellers
All Things Digital – they track what ever is happening in the world of technology and they update constantly. Today’s hot topic is what will the fall out be from the failed Microsoft bid for Yahoo.
The Bits/David Pogue – I’m an electronic toy junkie and this video blog is fun to watch because David Pogue is a far bigger nerd than I could ever be or want to be.
Duct Tape Marketing – Great ideas for marketing a small business and a very good portal link to other writers. They actually have some good tips for growing your blog that I am looking forward to trying.
Resource Bloggers
Cognitive Daily – If you have a fascination with the brain or psychology that always have very interesting articles and updates.
I read last week that there are 3,000 new blogs launched every week. Now we cannot read everything but I hope you are finding a few things to follow.
Tell me what you are reading - leave me a link to something new.

A new online tool to help shutterbugs
I’m photographer and many of my friends ask me for help with photos either how to get them out of the digital camera or how to resize them and improve them.
There is a great new tool online to help you shutterbugs. It’s from the company Adobe Software the creators of Photoshop. It’s called Adobe Photoshop Express.
Benefits:
-It’s free!
-You can upload photos and touch up those photos with the best of the Adobe tools from Photoshop.
-The tools are simple and very helpful with issue like resizing photos, improving the tones and color and even creating some artsy variations of your photos.
-It also includes a photo gallery to present and share your photos. The gallery options are impressive.
The other online photo galleries are simply galleries they do not offer these kinds of tools and help to improve and enjoy you photographs.
Adobe Photoshop Express – high ratings from me!

Options for managing email accounts
I’m a person with multiple emails accounts and each is important to different aspects of my business life. I’ve been looking for a way to manage all my email. There are three things essential for me (and maybe you too)
1. Check all six accounts daily.
2. Respond as needed but not from a forwarded account.
3. Avoid spam.
Some people might say just forward it all to one account but what forwarding does not do well is sort it the way I want it and allow me to answer from that original account.
What I have discovered is GMX.com it meets all of my needs – and has the greatest spam filter I have ever found in an email service. I can reply from my different accounts and send and receive huge files. This is helpful for my photography and graphic work. I’m a big fan for Gmail.com but these extra services from GMX.com are hard to beat. It’s user friendly and free!
Another option from those on the go that will work well with a service like GMX.com or alone is getting an iPhone. I have one word for email on an iPhone – smooth. My friends with Blackberry’s are changing service in droves and enjoying what an iPhone has to offer for managing and setting up multiple email accounts.
I love finding things that work! So go check out GMX.com you might find it works for you and helps you save time.

Another market for your services - Boomers
Another market for your services – Boomer entrepreneurs
Throughout your ideas of retirement. The fastest growing groups of Entrepreneurs according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics are Baby Boomers. In 2006 those starting businesses ages 55 and over rose 33%. The Baby Boomers have income available to start new ventures along with the expertise and desire.
How can you attract these new entrepreneurs to your services? I have a few suggestions:
1. Keep it personable – they want to talk to a real person about what you have to offer.
2. Make certain your website is simple and easy to navigate. I love artistic flash designs but get to the point already works well for this group.
3. If you are marketing towards this group consider sponsoring a radio program, a popular podcast and never under estimate a print ad.
4. If you don’t have some of your content available in podcast consider doing and make it easy to forward those links - Boomers love to inform other Boomers.
5. Let your philanthropy show – Boomers want to know you believe in community and giving back.
Resources for Baby Boomers starting a new venture:
ThirdLaunch – A program from The Hudson Institute that will help you a plan for re-launching the next part of life. Attend the Boomer Summit – endless source of networking and ideas for capturing the attention of the Boomer market.
